Notharchus
Notharchus is a genus of puffbird in the Bucconidae family. Established by Jean Cabanis and Ferdinand Heine in 1863, it contains the following species:
- White-necked puffbird (Notharchus hyperrhynchus)
- Guianan puffbird (Notharchus macrorhynchos)
- Brown-banded puffbird (Notharchus ordii)
- Black-breasted puffbird (Notharchus pectoralis)
- Buff-bellied puffbird (Notharchus swainsoni)
- Pied puffbird (Notharchus tectus)
The name Notharchus comes from the Greek words nōthēs, meaning "sluggish" and arkhos, meaning "leader" or "chief".
