NÓS (, meaning "custom" or "trend") is an Irish language culture and lifestyle magazine.
Launched online on 17 March 2008 during Irish Language Week, Seachtain na Gaeilge, it began publishing a glossy print edition in November of the same year. Run on a voluntary basis, this full-colour monthly edition continued for over a year before NÓS was printed as an entertainment supplement with Irish language weekly newspaper, Gaelscéal. In July 2013, NÓS was relauched with a new design and is currently being published monthly, with extra content updated more frequently online.
The magazine covers topics such as music, film, travel, design, activism and current affairs. It was launched by Tomaí Ó Conghaile, former assistant editor of Lá Nua and television and radio presenter with BBC NI, and relies on a large network of contributors throughout Ireland and abroad.
NÓS has received a number of awards for its contemporary design and content, including Best Irish Language Website at the Irish Web Awards in 2009. It was also the first and only Irish language publications to be nominated at the Irish Magazine Awards.
In January 2015 NÓS launched a new website, updated daily with new content.
Articles in the magazine are normally written in the Irish language, although a number of articles have also appeared in Scottish Gaelic.
NOS is a Portuguese media holding company whose main assets include a satellite, cable operator, and ISP, a mobile phone operator, a movie distributor ( NOS Audiovisuais) and a virtual carrier of mobile phone services. Its services include cable television, cable internet and VOIP. NOS (formerly PT Multimédia, ZON Multimédia and ZON Optimus) is the spun-off media arm of Portugal Telecom. NOS produces several premium channels for the TV platform, which include SportTV (joint-venture with Controlinveste) and TVCine. NOS Audiovisuais (formerly ZON Lusomundo) is also the home-video distributor of Walt Disney Pictures, Warner Bros., DreamWorks and Paramount Pictures releases in the Portuguese market, alongside of launching several independent and European titles.
NOS Energy Drink is an energy drink sometimes distributed in a bottle designed to look like a NOS ( Nitrous Oxide Systems) cartridge. Formerly a property of The Coca-Cola Company, it is currently produced by Monster Beverage and licensed by Holley Performance, which owns the trademark. NOS contains high levels of taurine and caffeine, but differs in its inclusion of large amounts of L-Theanine.
NOS (Network Operating System) was an operating system with time-sharing capabilities, written by Control Data Corporation in the 1970s.
NOS ran on the 60-bit CDC 6000 series of mainframe computers and their successors. NOS replaced the earlier CDC Kronos operating system of the 1970s. NOS was intended to be the sole operating system for all CDC machines, a fact CDC promoted heavily. NOS was replaced with NOS/VE on the 64-bit Cyber-180 systems in the mid-1980s.
Version 1 of NOS continued to be updated until about 1981; NOS version 2 was released early 1982.
