Nelumbo \Ne*lum"bo\, prop. n. [Ceylonese word.] (Bot.) A genus of great water lilies. The North American species is Nelumbo lutea, the Asiatic is the sacred lotus, Nelumbo speciosa. [Written also Nelumbium.]
