Mucron
A mucron is an attachment organelle found in aseptate eugregarines - an order of epicellular parasitic protozoa.
The mucron is located at the anterior end of the cell and comprises a ring of lobes and a ring of granular material. It is used to attach and to feed from the host's cell.
The mucron is derived from the apical complex which is found in all members of the phylum Apicomplexa.
A similar organelle - the epimerite - is found the septate eugregarines. Unlike the mucron the epimerite is separated from the remainder of the cell by a septum.
