Mirrors (Blue Öyster Cult album)

Mirrors is the sixth studio album by Blue Öyster Cult, released in 1979. Mirrors is the first Blue Öyster Cult album not produced by long-time producer and manager Sandy Pearlman. The album is notable for a collaboration with British fantasy/science-fiction author Michael Moorcock who co-wrote a song based on his novel The Fireclown. "The Great Sun Jester" is the first of several Moorcock co-writing credits with the band.

After the success of 1976's Platinum Agents of Fortune, 1977's Gold Spectres and 1978's Platinum live effort Some Enchanted Evening, the fact that Mirrors struggled to reach Gold status was disappointing to band and label alike. According to interviews with the band and the production staff, the intent for this album was to make a high charting and glossy production; however the backlash felt from this attempt was a reason for their future pairing with Martin Birch, and their attempt to return to a darker sound.

"In Thee" was written by Allen Lanier. It went in to the chart at No. 74. A live version is featured on their 1998 album Heaven Forbid, it features two acoustic guitars and was a popular "in concert" moment from this era. The line "Jim says some destinies should not be delivered" references the Jim Carroll Band song "Day and Night."

Mirrors (film)

The film was first titled Into the Mirror, but the name was later changed to Mirrors. Filming began on May 1, 2007, and it was released in American theaters on August 15, 2008.

The film was originally scripted as a straightforward remake of the 2003 South Korean horror film Into the Mirror which is rated 15 by KMRB. However, once Aja was brought on board and read the script, he was dissatisfied with the particulars of the original film's story. He decided to retain the original film's basic idea involving mirrors, and to incorporate a few of its scenes, but otherwise crafted a new story and script for his version of the movie.

Mirrors (Ohio band)

Mirrors (a.k.a. the Mirrors) were a rock band from Cleveland, Ohio originally active 1973 - 1975, although some accounts indicate they formed as early as 1971 or 1972. Their sound has been described as " psychedelic garage" and " proto-punk". In his review of a 2009 LP of their 1970's material for Mother Jones former Maximumrocknroll editor Mark Murrmann described them as "not as bent as the Electric Eels...nor as throttling as Rocket from the Tombs." The band's founder, Jamie Klimek, who sang and played guitar, said they "were ferociously loud." The other members were Jim Crook, guitar, Mike Weldon (who started Psychotronic Video magazine in 1980) drums and a succession of bassists first Craig Bell (later of Rocket from the Tombs) followed briefly by Paul Marotta who soon switched to keyboards (and played with the electric eels), then Jim Jones (who later played guitar in Pere Ubu), then Bell again and finally Jones again. In some of their recordings Jones played drums. They played original songs and covers originally by the Velvet Underground, the Kinks, the Troggs and Brian Eno among others. After they broke up Klimek, Jones, Marotta, other former members of the electric eels and Anton Fier formed the Styrenes. In 2013 and 2014 Klimek, Crook, Bell and other musicians played some reunion shows in Cleveland.

Their only release when the band existed was a 7" single on Heathen Records "Shirley" b/w "She Smiled Wild." 1986 - 8 the original line up produced by Marotta recorded the album Another Nail in the Coffin which only saw limited release in 1989 before the Dutch record label went bankrupt. In 1997 Scat Records released Those Were Different Times: Cleveland 1972-1976 a CD with songs by Mirrors, the electric eels and the Sytrenes. In 2001 Mirrors put out Hands in My Pockets a 19 song CD of material they had recorded in the 1970s. Mostly made up of studio tracks it also included some home recordings and live material. In 2004 ROIR released Another Nail in the {Remodeled} Coffin a reissue of the 1989 album plus a second CD with demos, live tracks and alternate takes. In 2009 Violent Times Records issued Something That Would Never Do a limited edition LP of previously released songs recorded 1974 - 75.
