What is "microcyte"

Microcyte \Mi"cro*cyte\, n. [Micro- + Gr. ? a hollow vessel.] (Physiol.) One of the elementary granules found in blood. They are much smaller than an ordinary corpuscle, and are particularly noticeable in disease, as in an[ae]mia.

n. an unusually small red blood cell found in some forms of anemia

n. an abnormally small red blood cell (less than 5 microns in diameter)

This is an abnormally sized red blood cell. By definition it is 5 micrometers or smaller in diameter. It is often associated with several forms of anemia.
