What is "meteomont"

Meteomont is an Italian meteorological service, with responsibility for assessment of avalanche risk, for early warning of avalanches, and for assessment of mountain snow conditions in general. It is a co-operation between members of the Corpo Forestale dello Stato, the forestry service; the meteorological service of the Aeronautica Militare, the Italian air force; and the Alpini, the mountain troops of the Italian army. In the event of war, for their mission and education they are considered a Special Operations elite unit, as a sort of Search and rescue Ranger team of italian Mountain Army.
