Melechinnar

Melechinnar is a small village in Idukki district of Kerala, India and is situated on the banks of a small river, the Chinnar. Most of the inhabitants make their living from agriculture.

Melechinnar is also known as Bethel. The people were migrated from Pala, Kottayam and other parts of Kerala about 50 years before. The agriculture are cardamom, pepper, rubber, cacao and coffee. Before some small rice cultivation was there but now no more available. Most of the houses have one or two cow and goats. There is Milma and Malanadu Society for collecting milk from farmers.

The children go to St.Jacobs UP School Bethel for studying up to 7th standard. After that they have to go to Thoprankudy or Erattayar for higher studies. Financially sound people send children to towns such as Kottayam and Pala for studying where they stay in hostels.

Road conditions improved as Madura Theni National highway passed through Chinnar. After the construction of the road, Adimaly is connected to Kattappana through Melechinnar. It provides the least travel time compared to other roads. Melechinnar is a junction where roads to Kattappana, Thoprankudy, Nedumkandom and Adimaly meet together. Before people reached jeep services for travel but now other transportation including buses are available.

People are politically aware but different political parties work together. People live in religious harmony.

That stationery business is run by Kottarathil Stores and Kottarathil Agencies .The grocery shops are Parinthirikkal Stores and parinthirickal stores are the total distributors of hill products of melechinnare and, Nariyambara Shop and janatha stores . Kattyamal Textiles provide cloth items and Mohanan shop provides tailoring. Dhanya hotel provides tea,cheru kadikal and lunches
