Meenambur is a small village in Gingee Taluk under Viluppuram district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It lies 151 km to the south of the state capital Chennai. The closest town to the village is Gingee, which is 5 km away, whereas the district headquarters Viluppuram is 34 km away. The village is famous for its all Muslim population. All the people in this village speak Urdu, in contrast to Tamil, which is the most commonly spoken language in Tamil Nadu.

It is famous for a 200 year old mosque which is built on Big Street. There are no Hindu temples in this village. The village is also famous for its sweet called Egg Sweet ( literal translation of "Anda ki mittai" from Urdu)

The people in this village derive their descendancy from the Arabs and are known as Nawayath. The Nawayath's are nine tribes who came down to South India for Business Purposes and to spread Islam. The famous family names from this village are Kokan, Hussain, Chumkar, Shakir, Sayeed, Papa, Amberkhani, Agle, Baandeh, Mehkri. The population of the village has drastically reduced in the last decade as many people have moved to cities for job. A sizable population from this village now also lives in the Gulf countries of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain and Qatar. Some have also moved to western countries such as the US, UK and Germany. This village is now witnessing the first generation of students going abroad for master studies.
