Machhra is an ancient village situated in Meerut district, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is situated 1.5 km from Meerut Garh Road. From Meerut distance of village is approximately 20.7 km.
Machhra is well known for education in adjacent area. Chaudhary Shivnath Singh Shandilay P.G. College and K.V. Inter College providing better education facilities in the village since 1953. Also there is Merchant Navy training Institute named J. Sons. In Machhra there are two banks, one Atm, one post office , Modern government hospital and Administration block. In village mostly 95% are Hindus, and rest 5% are Muslim. In Hindus there are many castes such as Tyagi, Bhrahmin, Gujjar, Schedule Caste etc. Muslims castes mainly belong to lower section such as Dhobi and Teli. Machhra village has contributed during 1857 revolt against English government. There were many residents who actively participated in Indian freedom movement during 1911-1947. Village is very well known for its progressive contribution in field of education, engineering, journalism, military etc. However village is lagging in agricultural activities mainly due to irrigation water shortage.
Total population is expected to be near 7,000–8,000.
