What is "luhe"

Lühe is a Samtgemeinde ("collective municipality") in the Altes Land west of Hamburg ( Germany). Lühe has a population of about 10,000 and belongs to the district of Stade, Lower Saxony. The seat of the municipality is in Steinkirchen in Altes Land. Lühe is named after the river Lühe which runs through Guderhandviertel, Mittelnkirchen, Neuenkirchen in Altes Land and Steinkirchen.

The Luhe is a river that runs through the Lüneburg Heath in northern Germany and discharges into the River Ilmenau. It is part of the Elbe river system.

The entire catchment area of the Luhe has been heavily populated since the New Stone Age as evinced by sites like the monuments at Soderstorf and the Oldendorfer Totenstatt grave sites. On the heights of the present-day town of Winsen (Luhe) a bridge over the Luhe was controlled by Winsen Castle from the 13th century.

The Luhe is a roughly long, left headstream of the River Naab in the Upper Palatine Forest in Bavaria, southern Germany.

It rises near the hamlet of Wampenhof near Waldthurn, flows through Waldthurn, Roggenstein, Kaimling, past Michldorf and Leuchtenberg and through Lückenrieth and Luhe-Markt. There it discharges into the Naab.

Due to the river's very steep descent, many mills and hammer forges have been built along its course. Its catchment area is used almost entirely for agricultural purposes with the result that the water of the Luhe is of good quality, enabling many species of fish, crustaceans and mussels to thrive there.

Its most important tributaries are the Trausenbach, the Lerau and the Gleitsbach.
