Lion \Li"on\ (l[imac]"[u^]n), n. [F. lion, L. leo, -onis, akin to Gr. le`wn. Cf. Chameleon, Dandelion, Leopard.]
(Zo["o]l.) A large carnivorous feline mammal ( Panthera leo, formerly Felis leo), found in Southern Asia and in most parts of Africa, distinct varieties occurring in the different countries. The adult male, in most varieties, has a thick mane of long shaggy hair that adds to his apparent size, which is less than that of the largest tigers. The length, however, is sometimes eleven feet to the base of the tail. The color is a tawny yellow or yellowish brown; the mane is darker, and the terminal tuft of the tail is black. In one variety, called the maneless lion, the male has only a slight mane.

The lion's share is an idiomatic expression which refers to the larger part—or most—of something. The phrase derives from the plot of a number of fables ascribed to Aesop and is now used as their generic title, although they exist in several different versions. Other fables featuring the same basic situation of an animal dividing up a prey in such a way that it gains the greater part, or even all, exist in the East.
Lion's Share are a heavy metal band, formed in Sundsvall, Sweden in 1987, by guitarist Lars Chriss, and keyboardist Kay Backlund. The band has since experienced multiple line-up changes, with Lars Chriss the only constant presence in the band through the years. Some of the past members are now featured in bands such as Therion, The Poodles, 220 Volt, King Diamond, Dark Illusion, Sorcerer and Zan Clan.
The band is on hiatus since their latest release in 2009. However, new material should be expected at some point in the future.
