Limnae

Limnae was an ancient Greek city located in Thrace, located in the region of the Thracian Chersonesos.

Another Limnae was a place on the border between Messenia and Laconia.

Another Limnae held the oldest shrine of Dionysus at Athens.

Another Limnae was a district of the ancient city of Sparta.

Another Limnae was a city in Pisidia, which, as well as being called Λίμναι (genitive Λιμνῶν, as in πόλις Λιμνῶν, city of Limnae), was also called Λιμέναι (Limenae) and Λυμναία (Lymnaea). It has been identified with modern Gaziri, where there is a wall-surrounded island in Lake Hoyran called Limenia housing ruins that include those of a temple of Artemis. The Greek word Λίμναι means lakes or marshes. The Pisidian Limnae was an episcopal see, now listed in the Annuario Pontificio as a titular see.
