What is "lierna"

Lierna is a comune in the province of Lecco in Lombardy, in north-west Italy. It lies on the eastern shore of Lake Como, about north of Milan and about north-west of Lecco. It has an area of 11.3 km² and has twelve frazioni: Bancola, Casate, Castello, Cisarino, Genico, Giussana, Grumo, La Foppa, Mugiasco, Olcianico, Sornico and Villa. At the end of 2014 the population was 2176 people, in 983 families.

Lierna borders the comuni of Esino Lario, Mandello del Lario, Oliveto Lario and Varenna.

The Lierna chair was designed by the Italian designers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni in 1960. It is an upright dining-chair and is made of lacquered wood with a slightly padded plywood seat. It was commissioned and produced by Cassina and sold through Dino Gavina.
