Leonhardt-Consort

Leonhardt-Consort, also known as the Leonhardt Baroque Ensemble, was a Baroque music ensemble which played historically informed performances from the early 1970s.

The ensemble, founded in 1955 and conducted by Gustav Leonhardt, concentrated on music by Johann Sebastian Bach and recorded all his harpsichord concertos and the Brandenburg Concertos. The orchestra participated in his St Matthew Passion with the Groningse Bachvereniging, conducted by Johan van der Meer. In collaboration with the Concentus Musicus Wien, conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt, they recorded from 1971 to 1990 Bach's complete sacred cantatas. They also recorded works by William Lawes and Henry Purcell.
