• Painting Lake George 1774-1900, Syracuse University Press, 2005 is a long, narrow oligotrophic lake located at the southeast base of the Adirondack Mountains, in the northeastern portion of the U.S. state of New York. It lies within the upper region of the Great Appalachian Valley and drains all the way northward into Lake Champlain and the St. Lawrence River drainage basin. The lake is situated along the historical natural ( Amerindian) path between the valley of the Hudson River and that of the St. Lawrence, so lies on the direct land route between Albany, New York and Montreal, Canada. The lake extends about on a north-south axis, is quite deep, and varies from in girth, presenting a significant barrier to east-west travel. Although the year-round population of the Lake George region is relatively small, the summertime population can swell to over 50,000 residents, many in the village of Lake George region at the southern end of the lake.

Lake George drains into Lake Champlain to its north through a short stream, the La Chute River, with many falls and rapids, dropping about in its course—virtually all of which is within the lands of Ticonderoga, New York and near the site of the famous Fort Ticonderoga. Ultimately the waters flowing via the Richelieu River drain into the St. Lawrence River downstream and northeast of Montreal and then into the North Atlantic Ocean above Nova Scotia.

Lake George can refer to one of three places in Indiana:

• Lake George – Steuben County

This recreational lake is on the Indiana-Michigan state line, located two-thirds in Steuben County and one-third in Branch County, Michigan. Nearby towns are Angola and Fremont in Indiana and Coldwater and Kinderhook in Michigan.

A mill pond and dam built in the 1930s are located at the south end of the lake, where the once-prosperous community of Jamestown is located. Important land features include Brown's Point and Grandy's (also known as Kope Kon) Point. Historical commercial enterprises include Wolfe's (typically called Wolfie's) grocery store at the Mill Pond, Clay's restaurant, Lake George Retreat restaurant, Tom's Donuts and Lake George Marina. The marina was acquired by Dream Toy Store in 2009 and is now called Dream Toy Store at Lake George. It is the only marina on the lake and does not offer boat rentals.

The lake is home to the international headquarters of the Inland cat Class Sailing Association and of the Lake George Cottagers Association, established in 1927. Once almost exclusively surrounded by seasonal cottages, the lake is now the year-round home to most residents. Many older cottages and vacation homes are being demolished or completely rebuilt into larger permanent homes. Annual festivals, both held on the Indiana side of the lake, include Big Al's Lakeside Funfest ("BALF") in July and Deckfest typically on the weekend prior to Labor Day.

It is commonly rumored that John Dillinger and members of his infamous bank-robbing gang hid out on a lake front home that still stands on the lake today. The location was supposedly chosen due to its proximity to the Indiana-Michigan state line, making it easier for the gang to evade local police.

This recreational lake was formed by the damming of Deep River in 1845 and is a medium-sized lake that winds its way through the city. It is a popular place for people to gather to walk along the city's waterfront. Musical entertainment can be found near the clock tower in Lakefront Park and at the Revelli Bandshell during the warm months. Fishing and boating are two popular lake activities.

• Lake George in Hammond – Lake County

This shrunken lake consisting of a north and south basin is located east of Wolf Lake and Calumet Avenue in the city's Robertsdale neighborhood. The Lake George Trail, a 3.1-mile greenway, bisects the two basins. The Lost March Golf Course, located just south of the lake, has an 18- and 9-hole course, which is managed and maintained by the Hammond Port Authority. The lake was partially filled in when building the main north-south thoroughfares through the city.
