Kothrud, known Kothrud Baag in the era of the Peshwas, is the western suburb of the city of Pune, Maharashtra in India. Situated relatively near the center of an industrialized city, it has seen rapid growth in housing, making it one of the fastest developing suburbs in Asia in the 1980s. Kothrud is now one of the upmarket areas of Pune, with real estate prices being quite high.
Kothrud also saw Pune's first flyover, Savarkar flyover at Paud Phata, which connected Karve Road to Paud Road.
Old landmarks in Kothrud include the Dashabhuja temple and the Mrityunjaya temple with history dating back to the Peshwa times. Kothrud is where Bajirao Peshwa's second wife Mastani used to stay.
Kothrud Vidhan Sabha constituency is one of the 288 Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha (Assembly) constituencies of Maharashtra state in Western India. It is one of the twenty one constituencies of located in the Pune district and one of eight in Pune City.
It is a part of the Pune (Lok Sabha constituency) along with five other assembly constituencies, viz Kasba Peth, Parvati, Pune Cantonment(SC), Shivajinagar, Vadgaon Sheri from Pune City.
Kothrud Assembly Constituency came into exitence by dividing Shivaji Nagar assembly constituency as well as dissolving Bhavani Peth constituency. It was not swing from Nationalist Congress Party to Shiv Sena. It is the strong hold of Shiv Sena. After division Kothrud won by Shiv Sena and Shivajinagar by Vinayak Nimhan, Indian National Congress.
