Kopri, primarily a residential Colony, is situated on the east side of Thane Railway station, Maharashtra, India. The residences of IAS and senior officers as well as the High court and civil court Judges of Thane city and Thane district live in this area [Barah (12) Bunglows]. There is a Koliwada & Kopri Gaon or fisherman colony of original inhabitants who lived there and on the coast line. Marathi is the dominant language in the area. Marathi,Hindi and Sindhi are widely spoken.
After the Partition of India, around 1000 Sindhi refugees were provided housing in 25 buildings, called blocks. Over time, other residential societies and complexes were constructed in the area. Majority of the people in Kopri are Maharashtrians and Sindhis. Kopri was awarded the cleanest area in Thane City. Kopri also has its first railway station (Old Thane Station) and New Thane Station. Most of the people are unaware of the Old Thane Station which was used by the Britishers which is still there but its condition is worse and it is not taken care.
Kopri is favored by majority of its residents due to its proximity to Thane Railway Station and Eastern Express Highway.
