What is "komponese"

Komponese ( Wuu: , IPA: , pinyin: kkangboknhin) is a term used in the 20th century to refer to the people in Kompo, the Shanghainese transliteration of the Subei region in the Northern part of the Jiangsu province. These people were subjected to prejudice in Shanghai compared to the locals and immigrants from Jiangnan and Canton due to their lower working status. They were accused of being uncultured, less trustworthy, and treasonous in collaboration with Japanese occupiers.
