Kohinoor

Kohinoor \Koh`i*noor"\, Kohnur \Koh`*nur\ (k[=o]`[i^]*n[=oo]r"), n. [Per. koh-i-n[=u]r, lit., mountain of light.] A famous diamond, surrendered to the British crown on the annexation of the Punjab. According to Hindu legends, it was found in a Golconda mine, and has been the property of various Hindu and Persian rulers.

Kohinoor is a 1960 Bollywood film produced by Dr V. N. Sinha and directed by S U Sunny. The film stars Dilip Kumar, Meena Kumari, Leela Chitnis and Kumkum. The films music is by Naushad.

It is said that Dilip Kumar went into depression after playing tragic roles in films such as Devdas and his psychiatrist recommended to do light roles. One such role that he took up was Kohinoor. Kohinoor cast Dilip Kumar and Meena Kumari to play a prince and princess of different kingdoms and was full of sword fights, songs and dances. This film is also notable for some rare comical and funny scenes by Meena Kumari, who is otherwise known as tragedy queen. Its tone was light and it lacked the intense characterisations of their earlier films. It was a major hit of the year.

The film included the very melodious songs 'Madhuban mein Radhika Nache Re' and 'Do Sitaron Ka Zameen Par Hai Milan Aaj Ki Raat'

Kohinoor is a 2005 mystery-thriller Indian television series based on the popular American novel, The Da Vinci Code. The series premiered on September 5, 2005, and aired on every Monday to Thursday at 10pm IST on Sahara One channel, starring Kuljeet Randhawa in the lead. It became a success due to its stylised promotions and marketing and was acclaimed for its noble story and theme. Besides, to promote the series, the channel launched a Diwali contest named "Kohinoor Ki Diwali Heeron Waali" from October 17 to 31, where it gave away 45 laks worth of diamonds to 300 randomly selected participants.

Kohinoor (2015 film)

Kohinoor is a 2015 Malayalam comedy heist-thriller film, set in the late 1980s. The film is directed by Vinay Govind and features an ensemble cast of Asif Ali, Indrajith Sukumaran, Aju Varghese, Chemban Vinod Jose, Vinay Forrt, Aparna Vinod and Shraddha Srinath. It was produced by Asif Ali in his debut film production which was co-produced by Sajin Jaffer and Brijeesh Muhammed under the banner Adam's World of Imagination. Rahul Raj composed the original music.

The film released on 24 September 2015 to mixed reviews. It released online through Reelmonk for audiences abroad a few weeks later.
