What is "khumb"

Khumb is a variety of mushroom which grows naturally in the western desert area of Rajasthan, India. It is entirely different from the button mushroom. It is harvested in the monsoon months of July and August . The bulb of the khumb is very delicate. It is found in small quantities and hence sells at a premium price. Khumb is consumed as a delicacy among the Punjabi people that have migrated to the area from Pakistan. No effort has been made to exploit the variety for commercial production.
