"Khadka" is a surname originating in Nepal. It is a prevalent surname in Nepal and an infrequent surname in India. A large majority of Khadkas are Hindus, and are from Kshtriya and Magar cast. Khadka is one of the five castes honored by King Prithvi Narayan Shah with the hereditary title of Kaji. Before Drabya Bikram Shah, Khadkas used to be Kings of Kalikot and Gorkha, before that they used to be great warriors fighting near Sukantamaliyena near Sindhwali, their main purpose being to save the valley's kingdom from intruders. According to different records there are 47 types of khadka with 12 different Gotra. Some Khadkas are also found in Darjeeling, Sikkim, Bhutan, etc. There are many notable figures with the surname Khadka. E.g. Paras Khadka, Pranab Khadka etc.
