Kepka-afganka

The kepka-afganka is a balaclava-like khaki headgear commonly issued by the Soviet Army during the Afghan War. It is also called Syriyka in English-speaking countries, since its name derives from Syria, inasmuch as they were first issued in the 1970s for overseas service in desert or tropical climates such as Syria, Angola, Vietnam, and Cuba, and eventually during the earliest stages of the Afghanistan campaign.

The kepka-afganka is a field cap made from sturdier cotton and featuring ear flaps which could be unbuttoned and lowered to protect the ears was supplied with the afghanka uniform.
