Kausalya

Kaushalya (, Tamil: கோசலை, Thai: Kausuriya, Khmer: កោសកល្យា, Burmese: Kothalla) in the Indian Ramayana epic was the eldest of King Dasharatha's three wives and a queen of Ayodhya; she was the daughter of the King of the Magadha Kingdom (Kaushal) Maharaj Sukaushal and his wife queen Amritaprabha. Dasharath sends a proposal of friendship to her father but he refuses. A war started between the two in which Dasharatha won so Sukaushal has no option left. He agreed for his friendship and married his daughter Kaushalya to Dasharatha. She was the mother of Rama, the king of Ayodhya, upon whom the story of the Ramayana is based. Shanta was the daughter of Dasharatha and Kaushalya, adopted by the couple Rompad (king of Angadesh), Dasharath's friend and his wife Vershini (an elder sister of Kausalya). Shanta was the wife of Rishyasringa, who performed the Putrakameshti yagna for Dasharatha. The descendants of Shanta and Rishyasringa are Sengar Rajputs who are called the only Rishivanshi rajputs. Kaushalya was the sweetest queen of Dasharath. She praises Sita for accompanying Ram to the forest.
