What is "kaunakes"

Kaunakes, from Greek for "thick cloak", also known as persis, was a woolen skirt or cloak which was worn during the Sumerian civilization around 2,500 BC. It was woven in a tufted pattern suggesting overlapping petals or feathers, either by sewing tufts onto the garment or by weaving loops into the fabric.
