Kartica

Kartica were a five piece indie rock band but as of 2015 they are a four piece. From Sheffield, England. Formed in May 2008, the band was made up of members; Mathew 'The Hookmeister' Hook (Vocals), Joe 'JoeBlo' Troughton (Rhythm Guitar), Sam 'Gripper' Cotterill (Lead Guitar), Josh 'J-Bomb' Morement (Bass) and Lewis 'Louis Louis' Eshelby (Drums), Mathew Hook has now left the band in order to pursue his clubland DJ career in Ibiza.

Blending a mix of distorted guitars and napalm fire drumbeats with creamy riffs and insane melodies, Kartica achieve a retro guitar sound with echoes of past masters such as Oasis, The Verve, Ocean Colour Scene and The Stone Roses. They were described by NME magazine as "Solid Sheffield indie rock".

In 2011, gigs with The Twang, The South (Ex - Beautiful South) and The Complete Stone Roses, saw the band's profile rise further, culminating with a shambolic appearance on Loose Women, where the band became involved in a heated argument with Janet Street-Porter, before being escorted from the premises.

On 29 March 2012, the band released their first single "Don't You Fink So?", available both as a limited edition 1,000 copy CD and through Internet download. The single featured on numerous dance music radio stations including Q Radio and received a number of favourable online reviews, whilst also being played regularly before Sheffield Wednesday F.C. football matches at Hillsborough Stadium. The video for "Don't You Think So?" has currently attracted over 17 views on YouTube. On the back of this, they secured support slots with ex Little Man Tate frontman Jon Windle, and nationally breaking band All The Young.

More recently the band have received national press coverage in Mexico and Argentina and been championed by Tom Clarke of long forgotten band The Enemy, 80's US Hip Hop Star 'Casanova Rud' and former England and Man Utd darts player Gary Neville. They released their 2nd single 'All Yours' on 10 December 2012 and it sold over 13 copies within the first week of release.
