Kanyakumari , also known as Kanniyakumari, formerly known as Cape Comorin, is a town in Kanyakumari District in the state of Tamil Nadu in India. The name comes from the Devi Kanya Kumari Temple in the region. It is the southernmost tip of peninsular India. Kanyakumari town is the southern tip of the Cardamom Hills, an extension of the Western Ghats range. The nearest town is Nagercoil, the administrative headquarters of Kanyakumari District, away. Kanyakumari has been a town since Sangam period and is a popular tourist destination.

Kanyakumari is a 1974 Malayalam language film written by M. T. Vasudevan Nair and K. S. Sethumadhavan. It stars Kamal Haasan in the lead role of the protagonist and Rita Bhaduri in the female lead. This is the first adult role of Hassan in Malayalam language films after his appearance as a child artist in Kannum Karalum. He also received his first Filmfare award for this movie.

Kanyakumari (State Assembly Constituency)

Kanyakumari is a Tamil Nadu assembly constituency located in Tiruchendur Lok Sabha Constituency in Kanyakumari district in Tamil Nadu. The constituency is located in the southern corner of mainland India, comprising the popular tourist destination Kanyakumari. In 2011 election, it had 237,410 total number of voters, consisting of 120,372 males and 117,038 females. Nadars, Vellalars, Dalits and Meenavars formed the majority of the electorate. Kanyakumari will be one of 17 assembly constituencies to have VVPAT facility with EVMs in Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election, 2016.

Kanyakumari (Lok Sabha constituency)

Kanniyakumari Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 39 Lok Sabha constituencies in Tamil Nadu state in southern India. It was formed after the delimitation in 2008 by merging Kanyakumari assembly segment from the erstwhile Tiruchendur constituency with the erstwhile Nagercoil constituency. This happened to be the strongest constituency for the Congress party in the whole of India. But in recent years, BJP has made in roads with it winning the Lok Sabha seat here in 2014 general elections.
