jukujikun

n. (context lang=en linguistics) A Japanese word whose kanji spelling conveys the meaning based on the individual characters, but the reading is not directly related to the spellling. For example, {{term|lang=ja|大||big|pos=usually read ''ō'' in (l ja sc=Latn 訓読み ''kun'yomi'') compounds}} and {{term|lang=ja|人||person|pos=usually read ''hito'' in (l ja sc=Latn 訓読み ''kun'yomi'') compounds}} combine to form (ja-l: 大人), meaning “adult” but read as ''otona'' instead of the otherwise-expected ''ōbito''.
