Jalanpur is a small village on the bank of the Damodar River in Bankura district, West Bengal, India. This village is just on the other side of Waria Railway station and DTPS. It is under the Banjora Gram Panchyat. It is the last village of Mejia Community development Bloc. In old days this village was once considered as the Sanskrit Learning Station.
One of the eminent scholar from this village was Sri Suresh chandra Misra. He was the first recipient of MA in Bengali (1945) And again MA in English(1947). He was the recipient of title "Vidyabinode" from Santinikatan, Viswabhariti. He was engaged in different Educational, Social & developmental organisations. Suresh Chandra Misra was incarcerated twice in British period. He was first jailed for 19 days at Bankura Jail when he was the student of English(honours) at Christian College Bankura. He was rusticated from the college & latter got admission at Bangabasi College Kolkatta.In 1939 he was the volunteer of Netaji Subash Bose~s Meeting at Hedua Park. Again He was arrested and put at Alipur Jail for 15 days, while Netaji Bose was put house arrest from where He left India in disguise. Mr, Atindranath Misra, an engineer in Durgapur Steel Plant, is his eldest son.
