Jako (programming language)

The Jako programming language for the Parrot virtual machine was initially created by Gregor N. Purdy as a "user-friendly mini-language," and became the first Parrot-targeted language implementation to have subroutines. It is similar to Java or C++, but makes several large deviations, in some ways making it closer to Perl. Jako can be compiled into Parrot's assembly language, PASM, and then run on the Parrot virtual machine.
