Imre is a Hungarian masculine first name, which is also in Estonian use. The origin of the name is not clear. Some argue that it derived from the Gothic Amalareiks, or from the High German Emmerich which its Latinized version is Emericus. While others claim that it derived from the Turkish emir (leader) or Emre, a traditional Turkic given name.
