Ídolos was a Brazilian reality television competition to find new solo singing talent. Part of the Idol franchise, it was created by Simon Fuller as a spin-off from the British show Pop Idol, of which two series were broadcast between 2001 and 2003.
The show aims to discover the best singer in the country through a series of nationwide auditions in which viewer voting determines the winner.
Through telephone, internet and SMS text voting, the viewers chose past winners Leandro Lopes, Thaeme Mariôto, Rafael Barreto, Saulo Roston, Israel Lucero, Henrique Lemes and Everton Silva. The eligible age-range for contestants is currently 15–30 years old.
The show aired on Tuesday and Thursdays nights in Brazil (Wednesday and Thursday nights during seasons 1 and 2, Tuesday and Wednesday nights during seasons 3 and 4).
After season 7 the show was canceled to make way for the Brazilian version of the Got Talent.
Ídolos is a Portuguese reality television show based on the popular British show Pop Idol. The show is a contest to determine the best young singer in Portugal. The first two seasons were hosted by Sílvia Alberto and Pedro Granger. The show, then went to a sort of hiatus, and, after only a lukewarm reaction by the viewers for season two, the show has officially been replaced by another casting show on its broadcast station, Família Superstar, which ended in 2008.
After an absence for four years the show returned for a third season to SIC in fall 2009 now with João Manzarra and Cláudia Vieira hosting. Season 3 finished in February 2010, and Season 4 started in September.
Ídolos had three audition cities to find the best talent in all of Portugal, including: Porto, Beja and Lisbon. However, in the third and fourth seasons, auditions were made in Porto, Lisbon, Aveiro, Portimão and Estoril. The show did not return in fall 2011 but instead returned in 2012. The show is currently on hiatus since late 2012, since then their timeslot for 2013 has been taken over by Factor X, the Portuguese version of The X Factor.

The third season of Ídolos premiered in October, 2009 on SIC, over four years after the second season finished.
The last show aired on February 14, 2010, with the victory of Filipe Pinto.
The fourth season of Ídolos premiered in September, 2010, on SIC, with the castings held in Lisbon, Portugal. Sandra Pereira won the show, making her the first female winner of the series. The runner-up was Martim Vicente, who was the judges' wildcard choice to make the top 10.
The fifth season of Ídolos aired in 2012. João Manzarra and Cláudia Vieira were the presenters.
