Hydroculture is the growing of plants in a soilless medium, or an aquatic based environment. Plant nutrients are distributed via water.

The word "hydro" derives its name from the Greek word ὕδωρ (hudōr) meaning water, hence hydroculture = water culture. Hydroculture is aquatic horticulture.
