"person from one's hometown," 1940s, American English, black slang, also originally with overtones of "simpleton." With many variants (compare homebuddy, homeslice, both 1980s, with meaning shading toward "good friend"). The word had been used by Ruskin (1886) with the sense "stay-at-home male," and it was Canadian slang for "boy brought up in an orphanage or other institution" (1913).

Homeboy (film)

Homeboy is a 1988 drama film, directed by Michael Seresin. It was written by and stars Mickey Rourke in the role of self-destructive cowboy/ boxer Johnny Walker. Christopher Walken also stars as Walker's slightly corrupt promoter, who encourages him to fight whilst hiding from him the fact that one more punch in the wrong place would kill him. The film was released on DVD on September 1, 2009.

Homeboy is a morning talkshow hosted by Boy Abunda whichs aired on ABS-CBN. Homeboy presents a dynamic discussion of real stories through actual interaction between Boy Abunda as host, his celebrity guests and his live studio audience.
