What is "holyrood"

• Holyrood (cross), relics of the True Cross on which Jesus died
• Feast of the Cross in the Christian liturgical calendar

The Holyrood or Holy Rood is a Christian relic considered to be part of the True Cross on which Jesus died. The word derives from the Old English rood, meaning a cross, or from the Scots haly ruid ("holy cross"). Several relics venerated as part of the True Cross are known by this name, in England, Ireland and Scotland.

Holyrood is a fortnightly current affairs and politics magazine. Created following the advent of devolution in the UK in 1999 the magazine provides coverage of the goings on at the Scottish Parliament, as well as interviews with leading political figures. A politically independent publication, the magazine claims to be strictly objective in its editorial. Holyrood Communications also organises events, such as policy conferences.
