Hanksy

Hanksy is an anonymous graffiti artist and parodist based in New York City. As the name implies, he is most noted for his parodies in which he combines pieces from British graffiti artist Banksy with the face of actor Tom Hanks.

His career began in April 2011, when he created a cut-out of a Banksy rat holding a paint roller with an image of Hank's face over it. He then pasted it on a building in Little Italy and someone posted a picture of it on Instagram. It eventually went viral and by 2014 Hanksy was collecting thousands for the Banksy-Hanks mashups at sold out shows across the country. His work has since branched out, including other celebrities and light-hearted imagery - most notably, a giant mural of Presidential candidate Donald Trump depicted as a large pile of excrement.

Hanksy has been recognized for other works and shows beyond his signature parodies. n December 2013 he held a collaborative "building destruction party" in an abandoned East Village tenement, filling the walls with art. The show was called Surplus Candy, and involved over twenty local street artists. A similar, but larger event took place in Los Angeles during October 2015. Surplus Candy LA was open for one night only in a dilapidated LA mansion. Over 90 artists were involved with attendance reaching beyond 2,000 people.

In August 2015, two months after Donald Trump announced he would run for President of the United States, Hanksy painted a mural the Huffington Post dubbed Tronald Dump, depicting the candidate as a cartoonish pile of feces.
