What is "guthi"

Guthi ( Nepal Bhasa: गुथि) is a social organization that is used to maintain the socio-economic order of Newar society. The guthi system has been in existence since 5th century BC. Presently, most of the guthis are defunct and are vestigeal representation of what once was the most powerful social organization of the Newars.
