Greedonomics

Greedonomics is a portmanteau word that refers to a form of economics based on personal enrichment without effective moral or legal constraints. It is generally used as a derogatory term for Neoliberalism

The term was originally coined in 2005 in a fictional book by Anthony Burns. After this, the term Greedonomics was increasingly visible on internet searches, somewhat changing its meaning on the way. In effect, Greedonomics is now analogous with Neoliberalism.

In a 2013 essay, author Sanjay Chauhan claims that greed is not innately negative, but that businesses motivated primarily by greed often abuse the societies in which they operate.

Blogs and opinion pieces have blamed Greedonomics for the successive economic crashes that have afflicted the world’s economy since modern economic deregulation began in the 1980s.
