  • The Giraldi Family name traces back to 760a.d. with its first mention in the noble families of Italian Toscana. Owners of expanse regions, castles and land the name belonged to a powerful noble family. During the Middle Ages, as populations grew and travel between regions ensued we find the name extending to northern Italy as early as the 8th century. The Giraldi name was prevalent in land now occupied by the Swiss canton of Ticino which was annexed to Switzerland from northern Italian cities in the 15th Century by various Swiss forces in the last Transalpine Campaigns of the Old Swiss Confederacy. Since then the last name Giraldi has been identified in lands now pertaining to Ticino dating back to the 8th century and is prevalent in modern times although it no longer proliferates in the Italian region of Toscana.
