Gadhi

Gadhi is a village development committee in Rautahat District in the Narayani Zone of south-eastern Nepal. At the time of the 1991 Nepal census, it had a population of 1063.

A Gadhi is a small castle-like structure or small fort, also known as a big wada.

Gadhi played an important role in Indian History. In some of the Princely States, during the Raj, the Gadhi were the residences for the local Royalty.

In Maharashtra, the dominant Kshatriya Maratha 96k community members used to live in the Gadhi or in Wadas. Generally, these were the local ruling class - the Royal Kshatriya. This included clans with prestigious titles like Inamdar, Zamindar, Jagirdar, Vatandar, Deshmukh, Sardar/ Knight, Saranjamdar, Sardeshmukh and Patil.

Gadhis were used as a focal point for the governance of a region, and as such were generally in the centre of the region.
