Frumentaceous \Fru"men*ta"ceous\, a. [L. frumentaceus, fr. frumentum corn or grain, from the root of frux fruit: cf. F. frumentac['e]. See Frugal.] Made of, or resembling, wheat or other grain.

1660s, from Late Latin frumentaceus "of grain," from frumentum "grain, corn," related to frui "to use, enjoy" (see fruit). Hence also frumenty "potage of boiled hulled grain mixed with milk and sweetened" (late 14c.), from Old French frumentee, Medieval Latin frumenticium.\n
