For the Birds is a 2000 computer animated short film produced by Pixar and directed by Ralph Eggleston. It won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 2001. It premiered on June 5, 2000, at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France, and was shown alongside the theatrical release of the 2001 Disney/ Pixar feature film Monsters, Inc.

It is also available on home video versions of the film. In 2012, the short was re-rendered into 3D, and it was theatrically re-released alongside the 3D re-release of Monsters, Inc.. The short was also released in 3D on Monsters, Inc. Blu-ray 3D, on February 19, 2013.

For the Birds is the fourth studio album by Dublin based band The Frames. The album was first released in Ireland on 2 April 2001 on Plateau Records, the Frames' own indie label. The band's line-up for this album featured Glen Hansard on guitar and vocals, Colm Mac Con Iomaire on violin, Joseph Doyle on bass guitar and backing vocals, Dave Odlum on lead guitar and Dave Hingerty on drums.

According to the album notes, recording took place in a wide variety of places: "recorded by Steve Albini, Craig Ward and David Odlum at Electrical Audio, Chicago and in Ventry, Kerry at Joan's house with additional recording and mixing at various bedrooms and houses including Black Box, La Dionae France, Trevor Hutchinson's, Mic Christopher's and Mrs Odlums."

In May 2009 "For the Birds" was voted by writers of the Irish music website CLUAS.com as the best Irish album released between 1999 and 2009.

On 30 March 2011 The Frames played the album in full at a 10th Anniversary gig in Dublin's Vicar Street (featuring Dave Odlum on guitar), before playing 13 more songs, either from their back catalogue or special performances with friends. Joining the band on stage at Vicar Street were Liam O'Maonlai, Bronagh Gallagher, Damien Rice, Interference and others.

"For the Birds" is a science fiction short story by Isaac Asimov. The editor of a proposed fashion magazine wanted a science fiction story about a clothing designer. Asimov agreed, and wrote the story in November 1978. It was accepted, but the proposed magazine never appeared, and Asimov sold the story to Asimov's Science Fiction. "For the Birds" was published in the May 1980 issue of Asimov's, and was reprinted in the 1983 collection The Winds of Change and Other Stories. The story was one of three Asimov wrote in the late 1970s set among a series of O'Neill-type space habitats.

For the Birds is the fourth album from The Mess Hall. The band's third studio album was released on 11 November 2009.
