Folderism

Folderism is the term describing the desire of an individual to segregate each item of a matching set into its own compartment. The term is derived from the concept in computing of placing each document into its own directory, creating meaningless structure that adds no organisational value. For example, a sufferer of Folderism will place each document in its own separate manilla folder prior to placing it in a super-folder that groups items of that kind together.

Sufferers of Folderism frequently show symptoms in numerous fields, such as office filing systems, clothes and cutlery storage, and computer file storage trees.

The antithesis of Folderism is Monolithicism - whereby all items are placed in the same compartment, with little or no sub-grouping to distinguish set relationships.
