Farooq (also transliterated as Farouk, Farook, Faruk, Faroeq, Faruq, or Farouq; , ) is a common Arabic given and family name derived from an honorific of Umar, an early Muslim leader. Al-Farooq literally means, "the one who distinguishes between right and wrong."
