What is "essequibo"

Essequibo is a loosely defined region of Guyana. It may also refer to:

• Essequibo Alliance, a non-government organisation in Guyana
• Essequibo (colony), a former Dutch colony in what is now Guyana; one of the three counties of British Guiana 1838-1958
• Essequibo cricket team, a former first-class cricket team in Guyana

Essequibo ( Dutch: Essequebo) was a Dutch colony on the Essequibo River in the Guiana region on the north coast of South America from 1616 to 1814. The colony formed a part of the colonies that are known under the collective name of Dutch Guiana.
