Deuterocanonical \Deu`ter*o*ca*non"ic*al\, a. [Gr. ? second + E. canonical.] Pertaining to a second canon, or ecclesiastical writing of inferior authority; -- said of the Apocrypha, certain Epistles, etc.

The Orthodox Churches accepted effectively the same canon as the Roman Catholic one in 1672 at the Synod of Jerusalem, though the Russian Orthodox Church remiained ambivalent, and at least down to the mid-20th century tended to omit the Deuterocanonical texts from its canon.
