What is "decepticons"

Decepticons or Decepts or Hammer Gang were a 1980s street gang based in Brooklyn, New York named after the villains in the Transformers franchise, the Decepticons.

The Decepticons were founded in 1985 at Brooklyn Technical High School. At one point in the 1980s, the Decepticons were the largest gang in New York City.

Five Decepticons were arrested on a violent attack they committed. In 1988 the Decepticons were charged with 43 robberies, mostly of jewelry and clothing. Female members of the gang were known as Deceptinettes. Their ages varied from 15 to 22. Despite the fact that the gang consisted of fewer than 60 members, their presence in New York City was described as mythical.
