Cystic duct

Cystic \Cyst"ic\ (s?s"t?k), a. [Cf. F. cystique.]

  1. Having the form of, or living in, a cyst; as, the cystic entozoa.

  2. Containing cysts; cystose; as, cystic sarcoma.

  3. (Anat.) Pertaining to, or contained in, a cyst; esp., pertaining to, or contained in, either the urinary bladder or the gall bladder.

    Cystic duct, the duct from the gall bladder which unites with the hepatic to form the common bile duct.

Cystic duct

The cystic duct is the short duct that joins the gallbladder to the common bile duct. It usually lies next to the cystic artery. It is of variable length. It contains 'spiral valves of Heister,' which do not provide much resistance to the flow of bile.

On occasion such crystals conglomerate to form sizable gallstones that may block the cystic duct through which bile ordinarily passes into the small intestine.
