Crypton (particle)

In particle physics, the crypton is a hypothetical superheavy particle, thought to exist in a hidden sector of string theory. It has been proposed as a candidate particle to explain the dark matter content of the universe. Cryptons arising in the hidden sector of a superstring-derived flipped SU(5) GUT model have been shown to be metastable with a lifetime exceeding the age of the universe. Their slow decays may provide a source for the ultra-high-energy cosmic rays ( UHECR).

CRYPTON

In cryptography, CRYPTON is a symmetric block cipher submitted as a candidate for the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). It is very efficient in hardware implementations and was designed by Chae Hoon Lim of Future Systems Inc.

The CRYPTON algorithm processes blocks of 128 bits in the form of 4×4 byte arrays. The round transformation consists of four steps: byte-wise substitution, column-wise bit permutation, column-to-row transposition and finally key addition. CRYPTON uses 12 rounds of this encryption process. Due to the algorithm's nature, the decryption process can be made identical to the encryption process using a different key.

Crypton (fabric)

Crypton is a name for a patented technology for the treatment of fabric to prevent it from becoming stained and to resist and inhibit the growth of bacteria. It is commonly used in the upholstery industry, and is popularly used in hotels and on cruise ships. Fabrics which are subjected to this technology become what the manufacturer describes as "Crypton Super Fabrics", and become able to resist penetration by water such that any water-based liquids which are applied to the fabric do not soak into it and do not penetrate any material underneath (such as a cushion). Crypton contains no volatile organic compounds nor formaldehyde. It was developed in 1993.

Crypton (framework)

Crypton is a JavaScript library that allows one to write web applications where the server knows nothing of the contents a user is storing. This is done by use of cryptography, though the developer of the application does not need any cryptographic knowledge. It is designed to encrypt data inside a JavaScript context (either a browser extension, mobile application, or WebKit-based desktop application).

Crypton was created by SpiderOak, also known for their encrypted backup product, who were looking for a way for data to be securely encrypted without the need for users to download a separate program.
