What is "crepidium"

Crepidium is a genus of orchids. It was previously considered as a synonym of the genus Malaxis, but eventually it has become an accepted name. The genus contains well over 200 species, native to China, the Indian Subcontinent, Southeast Asia ( Indochina, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, etc.), northern Australia, New Guinea, and various islands of the Pacific and Indian Oceans.
